Jonathan Clive Marks, Baron Marks of Henley-on-Thames , QC (born October 19, 1952 ) is a British lawyer and Liberal Democratic life peer in the House of Lords .

Marks was named a barrister by the Honorable Society of Inner Temple in 1975 and served in the Western Circuit. During the 1980s and early 1990s, he was an associate professor of law at Malaya University , Kuala Lumpur , the University of Mauritius, and Sri Lanka Law College . He became a Crown Attorney (QC) in 1995 . Since 1975 he has been an honorary citizen of the City of London and a member of the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers .

Marks has been a member of the Social Democratic Party since it was founded in 1981. He ran in Weston-super-Mare in the British general election in 1983 and in Falmouth and Camborne in the British general election in 1987 and in Cornwall and Plymouth in the European Parliament election in 1984 .

After the founding of the Liberal Democrats , Marks served as a party member of the Committee on England from 1988-89. He was a member of the Federal Policy Committee from 2004 to 2010 and chairman of the Liberal Democratic Lawyers Association from 2001 to 2007 .

On November 19, 2010, it was announced that Marks would be named a Lifetime Peer. He has been Baron Marks Henley-on-Thames , of Henley-on-Thames in the County of Oxford since January 13, 2011 .
