Jonathan Michel

Jonathan Michel (* around 1990 in Waterbury , Connecticut ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , also composition ) of modern jazz .

Live and act

Jonathan Michel gained his first musical experience through his father when he was four years old. He later learned guitar, piano and trombone before settling on bass. In 2005 he moved to Philadelphia, where he took lessons from musicians such as Sam Dockery , Mickey Roker , Nina Bundy and Sid Simmons ; from 2007 he worked with Billy Paul , for whom he also acted as musical director. He has lived in New York City since 2010. There he played u. a. with Orrin Evans , Aaron Goldberg , Denise King , Melanie JB Charles , Paul Bollenback , Johnny O'Neal and Tim Warfield . He was also a co-leader of the LXG project and worked as a composer and producer. The first recordings were made in 2015 with Carmen Staaf ( Day Dream , including with Dave Ballou ) and with saxophonist Albert Rivera ( Back at It ). Currently (2019) he leads his own quartet (with Joel Ross (vibraphone), Jeremy Dutton (drums) and vocalist Melanie Charles); he also plays in the Corey Wallace DUBtet. Orrin Evans' album The Evolution of Oneself (2015) wrote the title "Sweet Sid".
