Joop Castenmiller

Joop Castenmiller (born June 16, 1937 - † June 11, 2015 ) was a Dutch football player , coach and functional .

Athletic career

Castenmiller hired himself as a player with Graaf Willem II VAC and VUC , there he became the club's first selection player in the Dutch amateur national team . In June 1966 he played his last game as an active player for the club, then he took over the coaching position at Holland Sport . He later worked for Hermes DVS , which he left in the summer of 1971 for Excelsior Rotterdam in the Eredivisie . In 1973 he rose with the club from the top division. He then worked for the first division club Telstar .

In 1977, the then second division team Fortuna SC brought Castenmiller as a new coach, he was to work in various positions for the club for over ten years. In 1979 he missed with the team as second in the promotion round behind Willem II Tilburg due to the goal difference, which was one goal worse, promotion to the honor division. In 1980 he handed over the coaching position to Frans Körver , he switched to the management of the club. In 1982 the club rose to the top division and two years later reached the final of the KNVB Cup - ultimately lost to champions Feyenoord Rotterdam . In the European Cup Winners' Cup 1984/85 , the team reached the quarter-finals, but was eliminated against the eventual title winners Everton FC . In 1988 he left the club for health reasons.

In 1992 Castenmiller worked for a short time for FC Den Haag , in which his former club Holland Sport had now merged. However, plans to permanently take on the managerial post came to nothing.
