history

It was founded in 1925 under the name Fliegerkompanie 2 with the aircraft type Fokker CV. During the Second World War , the squadron was stationed at the Riaz military airfield in 1939 and 1944 . In 1942 he was retrained to the C-3603.

In 1945, during a reorganization, the flying personnel of Fliegerkompanie 2 was reallocated to the newly created Fliegerstaffel 2 and from then until 1949 also used the Morane D-3801. The motif of the old relay badge was identical to the new relay badge, but the Gruyère bird was in front of a copper-colored background, the outside area was black instead of white and the writing was shown on a yellow ribbon.

From 1949 to 1951, the squadron used 2 jet aircraft of the type De Havilland DH.100 Vampire, and from 1955 to 1982 the De Havilland DH.112 Venom from the Ulrichen military airfield .

In 1983, also at the Ulrichen military airfield, Fliegerstaffel 2 switched to the Hawker Hunter . The Fliegerstaffel 2 operated the Hunter until it was dissolved. During this time, Fliegerstaffel 2 moved its flight operations several times to the aircraft shelter ( HAS ) U-20 on the Payerne military airfield .

In 1992, the Turtmann military airfield , from where flight operations started from the aircraft cavern , became the new home base of Fliegerstaffel 2. During its last service in 1993, the Hawker Hunter with the registration J-4138 was on the left as a tribute to the canton of Valais Side with white and on the right side red color. Since the paint was not water-resistant, the aircraft was not allowed to take off in that paint due to the weather.

With the retirement of the Hawker Hunter from the Swiss Air Force, Fliegerstaffel 2 was dissolved in 1994.
