history

Lufttransport Staffel 1 was founded in 1965 and is a helicopter squadron for western Switzerland. Until 1973 Lufttransport Staffel 1 also used the Piper Super Cub fixed-wing aircraft. Alouette ll was used from 1968 to 1992, the Alouette lll from 1974 to 2010. Today it consists of 18 professional and militia pilots who fly the Super Puma, Cougar and EC635. Their main tasks are the air transport for the benefit of the army troops and the transport of goods on the sling. Other tasks are search and rescue operations . If necessary, Air Transport Squadron 1 also supports the civil authorities (e.g. during police operations, fighting forest fires or evacuations due to avalanches) and the border guards during surveillance flights. A team from the Payerne airfield command and thus also Air Transport Squadron 1, consisting of 2 pilots and 3 mechanics, has been deployed in Kosovo for 16 weeks a year for the benefit of KFOR since 2002 .

The Lufttransport Staffel 1 can count on the night vision devices and navigation devices of their helicopters. For this reason the LT 1 chose the nocturnal bat for its logo.
