history

Papyrus Hunter Fl St 15

In 1925 the Fliegerkompanie 15 was founded , which was equipped with Dewoitine D-27 until 1939. The Fifteen then flew from 1939 to 1941 with Messerschmitt Me 109D from the Payerne military airfield . With the same type of aircraft, the Messerschmitt Me 109D but also version E, the flight operations took place from 1941 to 1947 from Biel-Bözingen. In 1945, during a reorganization, the flying personnel of Fliegerkompanie 15 was reallocated to the newly created Fliegerstaffel 15 and from 1952 the squadron flew with Morane D-3801 from the St. Stephan military airfield. Only three years later, in 1955, the company switched to the De Havilland DH.100 Vampire jet aircraft, and in the same year the De Havilland DH.112 Venom was added. From 1980 to 1994, Fliegerstaffel 15 continued to use the Hawker Hunter from St. Stephan. In 1994 the Hawker Hunter was retired from the Swiss Air Force, the St. Stephan military airfield was handed over to civilian users and the Fliegerstaffel 15 was disbanded.

The Fliegerstaffel 15 had a blue Citroën 2CV as a relay vehicle with the relay badge on both sides. In the fall of 1994, the Hawker Hunter J-4040 received a special livery as a goodbye. The aircraft was given a white base color and the names of the pilots as well as the text Fliegerstaffel 15 in black block letters, based on the squadron symbol of the paper airplane. The additional tanks also received this paintwork. The registration was changed from J-4040 to match Fliegerstaffel 15 in J-40 15 , although the Air Force operated another airworthy Hunter with the registration J-4015 at the same time. The Hunter with the original registration J-4015 was decorated as a graffity hunter for the Fliegerstaffel 20 in September 94 . The aircraft was named Papyrus Hunter . Originally the "paper plane" was supposed to be set up on a pedestal at the entrance to the St. Stephan airfield, but the Hunterverein Obersimmenthal managed to keep the plane airworthy to this day and to show it at airshows with the civil registration HB-RVS.
