Air transport season 4
The Air Transport Squadron 4 (LT St 4) of the Swiss Air Force is part of the Professional Air Corps (but also has Militia pilots) and is subject along with the LT Season 3 the Lufttransportgeschwader 3, in turn, to the airfield command 2 during military airfield Alpnach belongs. The air transport squadron was founded in 1964. Until 1973, Lufttransportstaffel 4 also used the Piper Super Cub fixed-wing aircraft. Alouette ll was in use from 1968 to 1992, the Alouette lll from 1974 to 2010. Today, Air Transport Squadron 4 operates the Super Puma, Cougar and EC635 helicopters. Their main tasks are the air transport for the benefit of the army troops and the transport of goods on the load loop, further tasks are search and rescue missions . If necessary, Air Transport Squadron 1 also supports the civil authorities (e.g. during police operations, fighting forest fires or evacuations due to avalanches) and the border guards during surveillance flights. In 2014 the squadron celebrated its 50th anniversary, for this reason a Super Puma was provided with a white season 4 logo and made it to the Air 14 together with other helicopters and also with the F / A-18 jet with the registration J -5014 (which also had a special paint for the 100th anniversary of the Swiss Air Force ) joint flight demonstrations. On September 28, 2016, the Cougar T-338 had an accident at the Gotthard Hospice; Two militia pilots from Air Transport Squadron 4 were killed and one flight assistant was seriously injured.
