history

Hawker Hunter of Fliegerstaffel 20

It was founded in 1938 under the name Fliegerkompanie 20, and on September 2, 1939, the Mollis military airfield became the unit's home base. It had nine C-35 observer aircraft. In 1940 the Fl Kp 20 was retrained to the D-3800 Morane. The flying companies were divided into pilots and ground troops in 1946, creating Fliegerstaffel 20. In 1948 Fliegerstaffel 20 was retrained to the P-51 Mustang, and in 1956 to the DH.100 Vampire jet fighter . Only one year later, in 1957, Fliegerstaffel 20 was retrained to the DH.112 Venom . On August 27, 1962, Fliegerstaffel 20 suffered a serious accident: three DH.112 Venom of Fliegerstaffel 20 collided in the clouds at the same time as the terrain at the height of Furka , on the south and north crest of Blauberg, when they were performing maneuvers of the Mountain Army Corps 3 wanted to fly into Upper Valais.

In 1979 Fliegerstaffel 20 was retrained to the Hawker Hunter , the aircraft it flew until it was disbanded. Flight operations at Mollis Airfield were usually carried out from shelters .

In 1994 the Fliegerstaffel 20 was dissolved. The machine with the registration J-4015 was decorated as a Graffiti Hunter in September 94 and is being preserved for posterity by an association founded for this purpose in Mollis.
