history

Lufttransport Staffel 2 was founded in 1965 as a light flyer squadron. This happened along with the creation of three more seasons. It was first assigned to Field Army Corps 2 . The aircraft fleet consisted of nine Alouette II helicopters and four Piper Super Cubes. The home base was Triengen airfield .

From 1970 the squadron operated from the Reichenbach base until 1973 when the Piper Super Cub was retired. The Alouette III was added between 1972 and 1974. Particularly noteworthy are the PAL flights (flights with anti-tank guided missile units) under NOE conditions, i.e. close to the ground and cables, in some cases with breathing masks , which LT St 2 carried out.

On October 21, 1982 the squadron suffered a tragic accident between Urnäsch and the top of the Schwägalp pass when the Alouette III V-211 hit the Rossfall cable with its nose wheel. The pilot and five soldiers of the Füs Kp I / 70 died.

In 1992 the Alouette II was retired from the season. In 1995, due to the army reform 95, the light aircraft association was renamed Lufttransport Staffel 2 (LT St 2).

Lufttransport Staffel 2 was disbanded on June 30, 2000 at Buochs Airfield . For the farewell, the Alouette III with the matriculation V-203 received a special silver paint and the coat of arms of the LT St 2 painted on and the blue inscription "finito addio" on both sides. This machine was presented to the audience by Major Markus Just, the last commander of LT St 2.
