The Squadron 9 was most recently with de Havilland Venom DH.112 fighter aircraft equipped squadron of the Swiss Air Force . Their home base at the time of dissolution was the Sion military airfield . The Fliegerstaffel 9 had a side view of a red witch riding a red broom as a coat of arms . On a rectangular dark blue background. The witch and the broom were drawn without curves (apart from the black and white eye of the witch). Flying squadron is written in white under the witch. At the top right is a white, square number 9.

history

The Fliegerkompanie 9 was founded in 1925 and equipped to 1936 with Fokker CV. These were replaced by Dewoitine D-27 , which were in service with this unit until 1940. In 1940 the Messerschmitt Me 109 and Morane D-3801 followed. In 1945 the flying personnel was assigned to Fliegerstaffel 9. The propeller planes were handed over to Fliegerstaffel 9 from 1947. From 1950 the squadron was equipped with the De Havilland DH 100 Vampire jet aircraft. The De Havilland DH.100 Vampire was replaced in 1967 by the De Havilland DH.112 Venom. Fliegerstaffel 9 flew the DH.112 Venom until it was deactivated in November 1982. From the 1970s onwards, her job consisted of ground combat training for young pilots before they transferred to the Hunter front squadron. The Fliegerstaffel 9 was formally dissolved in 1994.
