The air transport squadron 3 (LT St 3) of the Swiss Air Force belongs to professional Fliegerkorps and is subject along with the LT Season 4 the Lufttransportgeschwader 3, in turn, to the airport command 2 during military airfield Alpnach belongs. The home base of LT 3 is the Dübendorf military airfield . The Air Transport Squadron 3 has a coat of armsa red number 3, the lower end of which merges into a black line and finally forms the contour of a helicopter's nose, in front of a white mountain, blue sky and gray background. The camouflage version of the coat of arms shows the same picture, but in dark green tones. The old squadron badge was round with a blue background below, two mountain peaks could be seen with white, the rotor and the radius of the tail rotor were also indicated with white. A white line forms the number 3 with the rotor and the nose of the red helicopter fuselage.

history

The air transport squadron was founded in 1965. Until 1973, Air Transport Squadron 3 also used the Piper Super Cub fixed-wing aircraft. Alouette ll was used from 1968 to 1992, the Alouette lll from 1974 to 2010. Today, Air Transport Squadron 3 operates the Super Puma and EC635 helicopters. The Super Pumas joined the squadron in 2001, the EC635 followed in 2010. Their main tasks are air transport for the benefit of the army troops and the transport of goods on the sling. Other tasks are search and rescue operations . If necessary, Air Transport Squadron 3 also supports the civil authorities (e.g. during police operations, fighting forest fires or evacuations due to avalanches) and the border guards during surveillance flights.
