history

Old squadron badge of the Fliegerstaffel 4

It was founded in the Second World War under the name Fliegerkompanie 4. From 1940 the Fliegerkompanie uses 4 aircraft of the Morane type. From 1943 the Fliegerkompanie 4 does active duty at the military airfield Frutigen . In 1945, during a reorganization, the flying personnel of Fliegerkompanie 4 was reallocated to the newly created Fliegerstaffel 4. From 1954, Fliegerstaffel 4 switched to the De Havilland DH.100 Vampire and De Havilland DH.112 Venom jet fighter aircraft. The St. Stephan military airfield became the new home base for Fliegerstaffel 4. In 1975 the Hawker Hunter became the new aircraft for Fliegerstaffel 4 and the Turtmann airfield became the home base. Fliegerstaffel 4 gave up the Hawker Hunter in 1991 and Fliegerstaffel 4 was temporarily dissolved. In 1992 the name was changed to Reconnaissance Squadron 4. Mirage IIIRS were used and the new home base was the Payerne military airfield. During this time the relay badge changes to the AMIR badge.

In 2000, reconnaissance squadron 4 was dissolved or integrated into reconnaissance squadron 10.
