The air transport relay 5 (LT St 5) of the Swiss Air Force belongs to professional Fliegerkorps and is subject along with the LT Season 1 the Lufttransportgeschwader 1, in turn, to the airport command 11 during military airfield Payerne belongs. This is also the home base of the LT 5. history

The Air Transport Squadron and Company 5 was founded in March 1962 as Light Flier Squadron 5 under the command of Captain Fritz Kolb. It was only flown with Piper Super Cub , Hiller UH-12 B, Alouette II and Dornier Do 27 at the Reichenbach military airfield and Frutigen airfield . In 1964 he was retrained to the Pilatus P-2 . From 1965, the Kägiswil military airfield became the unit's war base. At the end of the 1960s, training was given to the Pilatus PC-6 and the Junkers Ju-52 . From 1974 to 2010, the Alouette III was used in the relay . From 1992 the air transport squadron 5 operated the AS332M1 Super Puma . These were stationed at the Interlaken military airfield until 2003 . Since then, the Payerne military airfield has been the new home base of Air Transport Squadron 5. The squadron also received AS532UL Cougar and in 2010 the Eurocopter EC635 joined the squadron.

The task of the squadron is the air transport with helicopters throughout Switzerland.
