The Air Transport Squadron 8 (LT St 8) is part of the Swiss Air Force . Some of the pilots belong to the professional aviation corps . A third of the pilots are militia pilots who are employed by civilian employers. The LT8, together with LT Staffel 6, is subordinate to Lufttransport Geschwader 2, which in turn belongs to Airfield Command 2 at the Alpnach military airfield . The home base of the LT 8 is the Alpnach military airfield. The air transport Season 8 bears as a crest two light blue symbols in helicopter shape which strongly reminiscent of the side view of the Alouette III and fly offset that the two white circles rotor 8 is an oblique form. This against an oval dark blue background. The camouflage version of the coat of arms shows the same picture, but in dark green / light brown tones.

history

At the beginning of the 1960s one dealt with the expansion of the helicopter fleet. This led to the fact that Lufttransport Staffel 8 and Lufttransportstaffel 6 were founded. The light flier squadron 8 has deployed 15 Alouette IIIs since its creation in 1974 . The Alouette III continued to be used by Lufttransportstaffel 8 until 2010. In 1974 there was also the separation of ground and air according to the squadrons that exist today and the companies of the ground organization. In 1989 the squadron received the AS332M1 Super Puma in 1998 the AS532UL Cougar . The squadron has been using the Eurocopter EC635 since 2010 .

Air transport squadron 8 is responsible for transporting helicopters throughout Switzerland.
