Jordan Alejandro Díaz Fortun (born February 23, 2001 ) is a Cuban athlete who specializes in the triple jump . In 2018 he won the gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games .
Athletic career
Jordan Díaz started athletics at the age of eight. He eventually specialized in the triple jump through the disciplines high jump and long jump. For the first time in 2015 at the age of 14, he then competed in a triple jump competition in his Cuban homeland, in which he reached 14.60 m. The following year he jumped over 15 meters. In 2017 he competed at the U18 World Championships in Nairobi. In the qualification he reached 15.98 m and made it into the final with ease. In the final he then increased by more than a meter to 17.30 m and was thus able to win the title. The width meant a new youth world record in the triple jump.
In June 2018 he increased his record from 2017 to 17.41 m. In July he started at the U20 World Championships in Tampere, where he was victorious with 17.15 m. In August he won the silver medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games and gold at the North American Championships in Toronto. He won another gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. In July 2019, he set his best performance of 17.49 m at the Cuban U20 championships. In August he won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in Lima with 17.38 m . In October he also took part in the adult world championships for the first time. As third in his qualification group he moved into the final, in which he finished eighth with 17.06 m.
In February 2020, at a meeting in Liévin, he improved his indoor best distance to 17.07 m and also set a new junior continental record.
