Jorge Soto (cyclist)
Jorge Adelbio Soto Pereira (born August 8, 1986 in Salto ) is a Uruguayan road cyclist .
The 1.87 meter tall Soto, whose parents Jorge and Ema have two other sons named Juan Manuel and César, first took part in a competition abroad with the Uruguayan national team in Chile at the age of 16. Soto started at the age of 18 for the Salto Nuevo cycling team .
In 2005 he joined the team from Villa Teresa and won a section of the stage race Rutas de América . At the Pan American Championship of the same year in Mar del Plata he won the silver medal in the individual time trial and in the road race of the U23 class. Soto, now considered the Uruguayan Olympic hope, was subsequently awarded a training grant for the Center Mondial du Cyclisme (CMC) of the UCI in Switzerland. There he extended what was originally planned to be a month's stay to over a year.
In 2006 he then joined the Club Ciclista Fénix , but moved to Champagnat that same year , where he was under contract until 2007. He started in the U23 class at the 2006 Road World Championships in Salzburg . In the time trial, he finished 55th there, but he couldn't finish the road race.
In the 2008 season, meanwhile riding in the ranks of Villa Teresa's team , Soto was able to book a stage win at the Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay and won the bronze medal in the U23 time trial of the Pan American Championship. In 2009 , Soto from Salto was again successful in two stages of the Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay as the winner of the day and also took part with the Uruguayan national team at the Panamericano de Montevideo . As a result of a financially better funded offer, he then moved to Porongos in 2010 . Starting for this team, he was first Uruguayan road champion in 2010 ahead of Mario Sasso and his team colleague Gabriel Richard . Around a month later, he also secured the Uruguayan championship title in the time trial when he prevailed against Mariano De Fino (Villa Teresa de Montevideo) and Richard Mascarañas (Alas Rojas de Santa Lucía) , among others, who took the other podium . In 2011, accompanied by a stage win, he decided the overall ranking of the Rutas de América in his favor. He was also successful at this event in 2012 when the Porongos driver first crossed the finish line on the second stage and finally decided the tour in his favor again in the final classification.
Soto was a member of the Uruguayan squad for the 2012 Summer Olympics . There he took part in the road race, but had to give up the race after a fall.
