Rutas de America

Rutas de America is a cycling - stage race in Uruguay .

The race first took place in 1972 and has been held annually in February since then. The race is part of the UCI America Tour and is classified in category 2.2 . The winner of the premiere event was Luis Sosa . Overall the most successful participants with three overall victories each are the two Uruguayans Carlos Alcántara (1973, 1978 and 1980) and Federico Moreira (1982, 1988 and 1997). With his victory in 1996, the German Sven Teutenberg is so far the only participant not from South America who was able to secure success in the overall ranking.
