José Félix Estigarribia
José Félix Estigarribia Insaurralde (born February 21, 1888 in Caraguatay , † September 7, 1940 in Altos ) was a Paraguayan military ( field marshal ) and politician .
He joined the Paraguayan armed forces in 1910 and was then sent to the Saint-Cyr French Military School for further training . During the Chaco War he made a steep career that ultimately led him to the head of the army, in which he played an essential part in the victory against the better equipped and more numerous Bolivian army.
In 1939 Estigarribia was elected President of Paraguay and six months later repealed the constitution. However, this no longer had any effect, as he and his wife were killed in a plane crash in 1940. His remains are buried in the national pantheon in the Plaza de los Héroes in the capital Asunción .
The place Mariscal Estigarribia (formerly Fortín General Camacho or Fortin Lopez de Filippis ) in the Paraguayan Chaco was named after Estigarribia .
