José Lederer

José Lederer (born September 8, 1842 in Großwardein , Hungary ; † November 4, 1895 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Hungarian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

Lederer took part in the Sardinian War in Italy in 1859 . In 1862 he received an engagement at the Hungarian Volkstheater in Osen , then at the German Theater in Pest and at the Carltheater in Vienna . In the years 1863 and 1864 Lederer took singing lessons in Paris and Vienna and trained as a tenor . From 1865 he appeared as an operetta singer and had engagements on various German theaters, a. a. also at the Berlin court theater . From 1869 he was first tenor at the Darmstädter Hofbühne . Since 1871 it belonged to the FrankfurterMasonic Lodge "To Unity".

On July 13, 1874, he was staying in Kissingen as a guest at the spa when the Magdeburg journeyman cooper Eduard Kullmann carried out an assassination attempt on Chancellor Otto von Bismarck , who was here for the first time on the spa . Lederer seized the assassin. In the Provincial Correspondence of July 15, it was read afterwards: “With a strong whip, the coachman ran the murderer over the face and at the same time a bather (the court actor Lederer from Darmstadt ) grabbed him by the throat. In vain did the murderer use all means to evade his arrest (the Lederer's hand bears various bite wounds), the crowd held him tight, he was grabbed by all parts of his body, and he was almost torn to pieces, so big the indignation about the crime committed. "

He was later engaged as the first tenor at the Frankfurt City Theater, where he lived until his suicide on November 4, 1895.
