José Luís Gómez Ríos

José Luís Gómez Ríos (* in Maracaibo , Venezuela ) is a Spanish violinist and conductor of Venezuelan origin.

Musical career

Gómez began his musical career as a violinist and studied at the Conservatory of Maracaibo, his Venezuelan hometown, and later graduated from the Manhattan School of Music in New York with a degree in music and violin . At the age of eleven he was concertmaster of the youth orchestra of the Zulia region , a member of the Sistema de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Venezuela , made famous by the conductor Gustavo Dudamel . Gómez was later a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra , where he played under Claudio Abbado , Mariss Jansons , Iván Fischer and Franz Welser-Möst . Wanting to have more creative influence on musical decisions, Gómez took conducting lessons from Lü Jia at the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife , Tang Muhai and John Nelson .

Since then he has worked with the RTVE National Symphony Orchestra Madrid , the Houston Symphony Orchestra , the National Arts Center Orchestra Ottawa , the Hamburger Symphoniker , the Basel Sinfonietta , the Orchestra of Castille y Leon, the Orquesta Sinfonica do Porto, the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, the Macau Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Teatro Sociale di Como in 1813 . With the latter, he performed Mozart's Marriage of Figaro as part of the ASLCIO Opera Association in Lombardy, Italy, in several concerts throughout the region. José Luís Gómez is now chief conductor of the Orchestra Teatro Social di Como .

After receiving the first prize at the Sir Georg Solti International Conducting Competition in Frankfurt in September 2010 after a sensational jury decision, which was rarely unanimous , he received international attention. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra under Paavo Järvi appointed him assistant conductor. This position was created specifically for Gómez immediately after the competition was over. He has conducted the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra several times with great success, including at the New Years Concerts in Wiesbaden and the Music Discovery Project in 2012 and 2013. He also went on a school tour with the orchestra.

Symphonic highlights of the 2012/13 season were Goméz's debuts with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra , the symphony orchestras in Colorado , Vancouver , Edmonton and Pasadena as well as renewed works with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Castilla y Leon, the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira in Rio de Janeiro and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.

Opera directors were u. a. Performances of La Bohème at the Frankfurt Opera and The Flying Dutchman and Rossini's La Cenerentola at the Stuttgart Opera .
