José Romão Martenetz

José Romão Martenetz OSBM (born February 7, 1903 in Lemberg , Austria-Hungary , today Ukraine ; † February 23, 1989 in Curitiba , Brazil ) was the Ukrainian Greek Catholic bishop of the São João Batista em Curitiba eparchy .

Life

José Romão Martenetz was born in 1903 in Lemberg , part of Austria-Hungary. The ordination as a Greek Catholic priest took place on January 1, 1928 in the Basilian Order of St. Josaphat Kunzewitsch instead.

José Romão Martenetz was appointed Auxiliary Bishop for the Ordinariate of Byzantine Believers in Brazil on May 10, 1958, and Titular Bishop of Soldaia ( Sudak ). He received the episcopal ordination on August 15, 1958 by Archbishop Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops Stephen John Kocisko and Joseph Michael Schmondiuk .

On May 30, 1962, José Romão Martenetz was appointed Apostolic Exarch of Brazil. The appointment as first bishop of the eparchy São João Batista em Curitiba, which was established on the same date from the exarchate, took place on November 29, 1971. On March 10, 1978, José Romão Martenetz resigned from his office due to old age.

Martenetz took part in the Second Vatican Council as a council father . As co-consecrator, José Romão Martenetz was involved in the episcopal ordination of the Melkite Greek Catholic Bishop Elias Coueter .
