José Soares Filho OFMCap (born July 29, 1956 in Itapetim , Pernambuco ) is a Brazilian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Carolina .

Life

José Soares Filho joined the religious order of the Capuchins , made his solemn profession on October 28, 1990 and was ordained a priest on April 28, 1991 .

Pope John Paul II named him Coadjutor Bishop of Carolina on January 15, 2003 . He was ordained bishop on April 26th of the same year by the Archbishop of São Paulo , Cláudio Cardinal Hummes OFM ; Co- consecrators were Marcelino Correr OFMCap, Bishop of Carolina, and Luís Gonzaga Silva Pepeu OFMCap, Bishop of Afogados da Ingazeira .

With the resignation of Marcelino Correr's OFMCap on October 15, 2003, he succeeded him as Bishop of Carolina. Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on July 5, 2017.
