The diocese Carolina ( Latin Dioecesis carolinensis in Brasilia , Portuguese Diocese de Carolina ) is an in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Carolina in the state of Maranhão .

history

The diocese of Carolina was on January 14, 1958 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Qui aeque from assignments of territory by the territorial prelature São José do Grajaú as the territorial prelature Carolina . The Territorial Prelature Carolina was subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão as a suffragan .

On October 16, 1979, the Territorial Prelature Carolina was raised to the diocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Cum praelaturae . On June 27, 1987, the Diocese of Carolina gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Imperatriz .
