history
The diocese of Imperatriz was established on June 27, 1987 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Quae maiori Christifidelium from ceded territory of the diocese of Carolina and subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão as a suffragan .
