The Diocese of Crato ( Latin Dioecesis Cratensis , Portuguese Diocese de Crato ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Crato in the state of Ceará .

history

Pope Benedict XV established the diocese of Crato on October 20, 1914 with the Apostolic Constitution Catholicae Ecclesiae from cession of the diocese of Ceará and subordinated it to the Archdiocese of Olinda as a suffragan diocese .

On November 10, 1915, it became part of the newly established church province of the Archdiocese of Fortaleza . On January 28, 1961, it lost part of its territory to establish the diocese of Iguatu .

The diocese of Crato includes the parishes of Crato, Abaiara, Altaneira, Antonina do Norte, Araripe, Assaré, Aurora, Baixio, Barbalha, Barro, Brejo Santo, Campos Sales, Caririaçú, Farias Brito, Granjeiro, Ipaumirim, Jardim, Jati, Juazeiro do Norte , Lavras da Mangabeira, Mauriti, Milagres, Missão Velha, Nova Olinda, Porteiras, Potengi, Penaforte, Salitre, Santana do Cariri, Tarrafas, Umari and Várzea Alegre of the state of Ceará.
