Newton Holanda Gurgel

Newton Holanda Gurgel (born November 1, 1923 in Acopiara , † April 6, 2017 in Crato ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Crato .

Life

Newton Holanda Gurgel was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Crato on July 25, 1948 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on April 10, 1979 auxiliary bishop in Crato and titular bishop of Gummi in Byzacena . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on May 27 of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , and Eduardo Martínez Somalo , substitute for the State Secretariat .

On November 24, 1993 he was appointed Bishop of Crato. On May 2, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
