Wolfgang Peristerus

Wolfgang Peristerus (also: Columbensis, Tauber, von der Taube, Peristeus ; * 1532 in Neidenburg , † 1592 in Landsberg an der Warthe ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Wolfgang Peristerus was the son of the manor owner Christoph von der Taube. He had received his basic education at the schools in Elbing , Thorn and Danzig . In 1545 he enrolled under the rectorate of Georg Sabinus at the University of Königsberg . He continued his studies at the University of Erfurt , at the University of Jena , at the University of Leipzig , at the University of Wittenberg (since July 4, 1551) and at the University of Rostock (since July 1551). On February 16, 1552, at the age of 20 in Rostock, he obtained his master's degree in philosophical sciences. After traveling through Holland, England, France, Switzerland and Italy, he traveled to Königsberg in the company of distinguished gentlemen and continued his studies.

In 1554 he became professor of the Greek language in Königsberg, which position he took up on September 1 with the speech de laudibus graecae linguae . In 1564 he became a preacher at the Schelfkirche in Schwerin , received his doctorate in theology on May 5th of the same year in Rostock , and then became pastor at Schwerin Cathedral and superintendent . In 1571 he moved to Wismar as pastor and superintendent . There he was released in 1575 and then worked in various Pomeranian towns. In 1580 he was appointed court and cathedral preacher to Elector Johann Georg von Brandenburg at the cathedral monastery in Cölln Castle on the Spree . In 1583 he went to Landsberg as an inspector, where he worked until the end of his life. Peristerus has also appeared as a hymn poet.

In 1566 he married Katharina, daughter of the ducal Vogts Paschen Gustävel. His wife is said to have been vengeful and quarrelsome, so that he lost some employment.
