José Vicente Távora

José Vicente Távora (born July 10, 1910 in Orobó , Pernambuco , † April 3, 1970 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Aracaju .

Life

José Vicente Távora received on 8 May 1934, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On June 23, 1954, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Cius and auxiliary bishop in Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro . The Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, Cardinal Jaime de Barros Câmara , donated him episcopal ordination on July 25 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, Hélder Câmara and Jorge Marcos de Oliveira .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on November 20, 1957 bishop of Aracaju. On April 30, 1960, José Vicente Távora became the first archbishop of Aracaju as a result of the elevation of the diocese of Aracaju.

José Vicente Távora attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
