Josef Anton Becht

Josef Anton Becht , often also Josef Becht for short or with the first name spelling Joseph , (* December 1, 1858 in Buchloe ; † March 22, 1926 in Munich ) was a German organist , conductor , conductor and music teacher.

life and work

Josef Anton Becht was court music director and court music director at the Royal Vocal Band in Munich. He also worked as a music teacher at the Royal Academy of Music . One of Josef Becht's students there was the conductor Hans Oppenheim .

In 1894, Becht played the organ solo part in the world premiere of the G minor Concerto by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger under the musical direction of Richard Strauss on the Maerz organ in the Odeon in Munich . Becht later worked as an expert in connection with the transfer of this Maerz organ to St. Rupert in Munich and confirmed the authenticity of the instrument.
