Josef Blinzler

Josef Blinzler (born July 7, 1910 in Stockheim , † September 13, 1970 in Passau ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and priest .

Life

He attended elementary school in Peißenberg from 1916 to 1922 . After graduating from high school in 1930 at the Humanist Gymnasium in Dillingen an der Donau , he studied philosophy and theology at the Philosophical-Theological University in Dillingen and from 1931 to 1935 at the Herzoglicher Georgianum in Munich . After priestly ordination on June 23, 1935, he was in 1936 with a thesis on The New Testament accounts of the transfiguration of Jesus doctorate .

In 1938 he submitted his habilitation to the University of Munich , which, however, was postponed due to the closure of the Catholic theological faculty and thus not completed until 1947. On August 14, 1947, he was appointed private lecturer in New Testament exegesis at the University of Munich .

On November 1, 1949, he was appointed associate professor for exegesis at the Philosophical-Theological College in Passau . On January 1, 1954, he was appointed full professor. From September 1958 to 1960 he headed the university as rector and then vice-rector until 1962 .
