Josef Carl Knaflitsch

Josef Carl Knaflitsch (born September 29, 1907 in Vienna , † February 22, 1982 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian composer, conductor, piano accompanist and university teacher. He wrote music for musical plays and operettas. He composed more than a thousand songs and chansons.

Life

He was a son of the high school director Dr. phil. Karl Knaflitsch and Petronilla Knaflitsch, geb. Staffler.

From 1917 to 1925 he attended the Humanist Gymnasium of the Theresian Academy in Vienna IV, Favoritenstrasse 15. The Matura was awarded with distinction. Then Knaflitsch took a law degree at the University of Vienna up to the 1st state examination. He attended the Kapellmeisterschule with Rudolf Nilius at the New Vienna Conservatory and took private lessons with the pianist Carl Lafite , after which he studied at the church music department of the Music Academy in Vienna.

From 1936 to 1938 he worked as a resident composer for the cabaret “ Literatur am Naschmarkt ”; from 1938 to 1944 he was resident composer at the chamber art theater "Wiener Werkel". From 1945 to 1946 Knaflitsch worked as Kapellmeister at the “ Theater in der Josefstadt ”, from 1946 to 1948 he was director of the cabaret “Kleines Welttheater - KWT” in Innsbruck. From 1949 to 1951 he was Kapellmeister at the “ Theater in der Josefstadt ”. He undertook various tours with cabaret ensembles through Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Knaflitsch taught from 1956 to 1972 as a teacher and professor at the drama seminar of the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg in the subjects of musical knowledge, ear training, music notation and chanson.
