The Salzburg Street Theater is a cultural initiative that has existed in Salzburg since 1970 , which uses street theater resources to stage plays.

Oscar Fritz Schuh and his wife Ursula directed the performances until 1984, from 1985 to 2015 Klaus Gmeiner (production) and Bernd Dieter Müller (equipment). The pieces were set up by Klaus Gmeiner and Leo Braune (who played almost every year from 1986 to 2015) for small ensembles and for playing on the horse-drawn Thespis cart . Josef Carl Knaflitsch wrote the music until 1980 . Helmut Gubi was responsible for the music from around 1996 .

In 2016 Georg Clementi , who appeared in Carlo Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters in the 1990s, took over the management of the theater.

The pieces of the Salzburg street theater can be visited from the end of July to the beginning of August at venues throughout the state of Salzburg with free admission.

The most played piece so far is earlier conditions by Johann Nestroy , 1970, 1980, 1990 and 1995.
