Klaus Gmeiner

Klaus Gmeiner (born June 11, 1932 in Bregenz ) is an Austrian radio and theater director .

Life

The son of a businessman and an anti-fascist mother studied drama and directing at the Salzburg Mozarteum University from 1954 . He then worked at the Salzburg State Theater as a dramaturge and at the Schauspielhaus Graz as an opera and theater director. From 1967 Gmeiner worked as a senior director at the St. Gallen City Theater . From 1971 to 1996 he produced in the ORF regional studio in Salzburgaround 400 radio plays not only based on radio play manuscripts. His specialty was also the adaptation of prose works for radio. Gmeiner was on the jury of the Rauris Literature Days. Since 1985 the director , who lives in Salzburg and Vienna, has been staging plays for the Salzburg street theater in the successor to Oscar Fritz Schuh .

Peter Simonischek pays tribute to Gmeiner's work; refers to the staging of works by the authors Anouilh , Shaw , O'Neill , but also Raimund , Nestroy , Schnitzler and Hofmannsthal .
