Josef Dering
Josef Dering (born March 17, 1910 in Munich , † 1999 in Dakar , Senegal) was a German painter, graphic artist and art teacher .
Life
Josef Dering studied art at the Technical University of Munich under Karl Knappe as well as at the Munich Art Academy, where he graduated with a state examination for higher education in painting and graphics. His teachers included Adolf Schinnerer and Karl Caspar . He was married to Angelika Spethmann (1916–2000), a great-granddaughter of Theodor Storm, who was recognized as a portrait painter. Josef Dering lived at Allinger Straße 83 in Eichenau since the Second World War . He died in 1999 while his son was visiting Senegal. One of the local elementary schools was named after him.
For Eichenau he was also important as the creator of the municipal coat of arms, which shows "a stylized oak in silver on green ground" and was recognized as a coat of arms by the Interior Ministry in 1959 after Eichenau became independent in 1957.
Works
In addition to the fountain in Germering and the facade of the Sparkasse in Fürstenfeldbruck , Josef Dering has designed art in public and sacred spaces in Germering and Fürstenfeldbruck several times; including the medallions with craft guild signs on the facade of the town hall, a currently attached mural in the foyer of the town hall, all ceramic coats of arms in the town hall Unterpfaffenhofen, glass windows of the Germering churches Don Bosco and St. Cäcilia as well as a glass sculpture with a market scene, which is at the entrance to the Wittelsbach shopping center opposite the WWK settlement. In Fürstenfeldbruck, he shaped the Catholic parish church of St. Bernard , consecrated in 1964, with its three large glass walls , which was listed as a historical monument in 2008 mainly because of Dering's glass art. In Eichenau, the design of the facade on the elementary school named after him (Building 2) and a wall (now covered) in the Sparkasse branch come from Dering.
In addition to his works for public buildings in Fürstenfeldbruck (Sparkasse facade), Eichenau, Germering, Olching and Munich, his work also came to Poland and the USA. The estate is administered by the Fürstenfeldbruck Community Foundation and kept in Eichenau Town Hall. Around 400 objects, including oil paintings, lithographs, woodcuts, portrait drawings, linocut prints, ceramics and designs for church windows, were archived and properly stored.
