Josef Duss-von Werdt

Josef Duss-von Werdt (born October 24, 1932 near Lucerne ; † October 25, 2019 ) was a Swiss psychologist , theologian and university professor . He was considered a specialist in the field of family therapy and became known as a pioneer of mediation .

Life stations

Joseph Duss-von Werdt completed his studies in philosophy and psychology at the Catholic University of Leuven in 1956 as Dr. phil. from. In 1964 he was at the University of Munich in theology to Dr. theol. PhD. From 1967 to 1987 he was head of the Institute for Marriage and Family in Zurich , which he co-founded. From 1970 to 1974 he worked as a lecturer for family issues at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich . From 1976 to 1987 he was - together with Helm Stierlin - editor of the magazine Familiendynamik , which he also co-founded.

In the context of interprofessional courses with judges , lawyers and consultants, he made his first contacts in mediation at the end of the 1970s. When Eidosprojekt Munich he took - in the dual role as participants and trainers - in part, taught and learned how to deal with conflicting situations. Until 1997 he worked as adjunct professor for systemic family therapy at the University of Friborg , in addition he held various teaching positions at the universities of Bern and Geneva and at the Frankfurt Institute for Mediation IKOM. In 1992 he was a co-founder of the Swiss Mediation Association. From 1998 Joseph Duss-von Werdt worked as a lecturer for mediation at the University of Hagen . He died in October 2019, the day after his 87th birthday.
