Josef Elstner

Josef Elstner (born March 19, 1915 in Neundorf bei Reichenberg ; † November 11, 1980 ) was an economic functionary and diplomat of the GDR . He was a trade councilor in the SFR Yugoslavia .

Life

Elstner became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) in 1945 and of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) in 1946 . From 1952 to 1962 Elstner worked as a group or department head in the Ministry of Finance of the GDR. He qualified as a graduate economist . From 1962 to 1965 he acted as deputy general director, from 1965 as general director of the GDR foreign trade company Bergbau-Handel GmbH and was chairman of the Society for Trade with West Berlin . From January 1973 Elstner worked in the rank of trade council as head of the trade policy department at the embassy of the GDR in Belgrade (successor to Georg Kulessa).

Elstner died at the age of 65 as a result of a traffic accident.
