Josef García-Cascales

Josef García-Cascales CMF (born August 9, 1928 in Xàtiva , Valencia Province , Spain as José Maria García-Cascales ; † September 8, 2012 in Vienna , Austria ) was a Spanish Claretian who worked in Austria . He was the founder of the Cursillo movement in German-speaking countries.

Life

Josef García-Cascales was born in the Spanish province of Valencia , his father was murdered in 1936 because of his Christian faith in the Spanish Civil War . In 1940 he entered the minor seminary of the Claretian in Alagón , Zaragoza Province , one. In 1946 he joined the religious community in Vic , province of Barcelona , and studied philosophy in northern Spain. From 1949 to 1953 he studied Catholic theology at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main . In 1953 he was ordained a priest . Since 1958 he worked in Vienna .

At Pentecost 1960 he introduced the Cursillo movement in the German-speaking area , starting from Heiligenkreuz Abbey , and was the leader of the movement until 2003. In 1969 the Austrian Bishops' Conference appointed him leader of the Working Group of Diocesan Secretariats (ADC). He was the church rector of the Immaculate Heart Chapel of the Breitenfeld parish .

His literary works have reached a circulation of almost 1.5 million copies. He directed the magazine "Cursillo - Gospel Today" for over 35 years.
