Josef Krieglstein (born March 10, 1938 in Pechgrün (Smolnice) near Vřesová , Czechoslovakia ) is a German pharmacist, physician, pharmacologist and emeritus university professor.

biography

Josef Krieg (e) lstein, a son of the administrative officer Lambert Kriegelstein and his wife Berta in Pechgrün near Elbogen ( Loket ), later called Smolnice, which fell victim to the mining of brown coal , came to the Upper Palatinate as a displaced person . After graduating from high school in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate in 1957 , he initially worked as an intern in a pharmacy there, before studying pharmacy in 1959 and, after graduating in 1962, studying medicine at the University of Erlangen . In 1965 he was promoted to Dr. rer. nat. and in 1967 Dr. med. PhD. He then worked as a research assistant at the Pharmacological Institute of the University of Mainz , where he qualified as a professor in 1970 for pharmacology and toxicology in the fields of pharmacy and food chemistry. In 1972 he was appointed adjunct professor in Mainz, and in 1973 he was appointed Scientific Council and scheduled professor.

In 1974 he was offered a chair for pharmacology and toxicology at the University of Marburg , where he served for several terms as dean of the pharmacy department and became a member of numerous national and international specialist societies.

Main research areas

Josef Krieglstein's main areas of research with over 120 scientific publications in specialist journals are plasma protein binding of pharmaceuticals, brain energy metabolism , neuronal degeneration and protection, cerebral ischemia , protein phosphatases and kinases as well as mechanisms of atherosclerosis .

Honors

Krieglstein has received numerous scientific prizes and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class in 2004.
