Josef Lederer (textile entrepreneur)

Josef Lederer (born July 9, 1852 in Dolní Radechová , Bohemia ; † July 17, 1937 in Marienbad , Czechoslovakia ) was a textile entrepreneur in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy from 1880 to 1918 and then in Czechoslovakia until 1937. For his decades of service to the municipality of Náchod , he was made an honorary citizen . He was also chairman of the Náchod Jewish community .

Life

Josef Lederer, a son of Ezekiel Lederer, was a textile master. In Pulice (Pulitz) near Dobruška (Gutenfeld) he built a small weaving mill in 1872, which he ran himself. He founded another weaving mill in Náchod in 1880, in which linen and cotton fabrics were manufactured and which operated as "Lederer & Stransky". In 1888 it was moved to the former large mill in the suburb Krajské předměstí and equipped as a mechanical weaving mill with 60 steam-powered looms. After Josef's son Richard was accepted into the company, it traded as "Josef Lederer & Sohn" ( Josef Lederer a syn) . After 1918 the company's head office was located at 29 Kramská třida Street.

Josef Lederer was also chairman of the local association of textile craftsmen and was a member of the municipal representation for over 40 years. In the Náchod City Council, together with the brothers Josef Bartoň-Dobenín and Cyril Bartoň-Dobenín, he was responsible for the finance department. For decades he was a member of the finance committee of the municipal savings bank (spořitelna) . He was also a founding member of the TJ Sokol Náchod , the volunteer fire brigade and vice-president of the Masaryk League against Tuberculosis.

On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the city of Náchod made him an honorary citizen. At the age of 85 he died during a spa stay in Marienbad. The burial in the Jewish cemetery in Náchod was carried out by the Prague Rabbi Gustav Safe . The chairman Richard Lewith said goodbye for the Jewish community of Nachod.

Josef Lederer was married to Eugenie / Evženie (born April 22, 1856, † April 5, 1937 in Náchod), daughter of Lazar Winternitz. The children came from marriage:

    1. Lederer Jan (Honsa) (born March 31, 1913 in Náchod; † 1943 or 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp), 1924–1928 pupil at the Náchod grammar school.
    2. Lederer Marianna (Mimka) (25 October 1916 in Náchod; † 1943 or 1944 in Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp), from 1927 pupil at the grammar school in Náchod.
