Josef Medl

Josef Medl (born May 15, 1917 in Poppendorf in Burgenland ; † September 7, 1995 in Jennersdorf ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and elementary school teacher. Medl was a member of the Burgenland Landtag from 1960 to 1974 and a member of the Federal Council from 1974 to 1978 . In addition, he was Chairman of the Federal Council in the first half of 1978.

biography

Medl was born as the son of the farmer and host Johann Medl from Poppendorf and attended elementary school in Heiligenkreuz in the Lafnitztal . He then completed secondary school in Graz and the Oberschützen agricultural college , where he graduated from high school in 1936. From 1937 he then worked as a primary school teacher in southern Burgenland. Between 1938 and 1945 he served in the Wehrmacht and was seriously wounded. From 1944 he studied for four semesters at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and then worked in his parents' company.

After the end of the Second World War, Medl found work in the school service again from 1948 and was most recently employed as a primary school director in Grieselstein . Medl represented the SPÖ between May 5, 1960 and December 6, 1974 in the Burgenland state parliament. He was then from December 10, 1974 to June 30, 1978 Federal Council, where he held the function of Chairman of the Federal Council between January 1, 1978 and June 30, 1978. In addition, from 1956 he was SPÖ district party leader in the Jennersdorf district .
