Josef "Jos" Minsch (born June 23, 1941 in Klosters ; † June 7, 2008 there ) was a Swiss ski racer . He was active in the 1960s and particularly successful in downhill runs .

biography

At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 he reached fourth place in the downhill and missed the bronze medal by just six hundredths of a second; in the giant slalom he was ninth. At the 1968 Winter Olympics , he reached 14th place in the downhill.

In the Ski World Cup , which has been held since 1967 , Minsch won a downhill run on February 9, 1969 in Cortina d'Ampezzo . In addition, he achieved ten other placements among the top ten. Minsch won a total of five Swiss championship titles (downhill in 1963, 1964 and 1966, giant slalom in 1963, combined in 1963). In 1963 he was also the American downhill and giant slalom champion.

During training for the Lauberhorn downhill run , Minsch fell badly on January 6, 1965 and suffered a fractured pelvis, after which he had to pause for a year. The fall point below the “Hundschopf” jump has since been called the “Minschkante” after him. In 1966 Minsch only had to admit defeat to the Austrian Karl Schranz on the Lauberhorn descent . In the same year he won the downhill of the 3-tre races in Madonna di Campiglio .

After his resignation at the end of the 1968/69 season, the trained machine mechanic and patented ski instructor initially worked as a representative for his ski and ski boot company and then headed the Klosters ski school for twenty years.
