Josef Prantl (politician)

Josef Prantl (born November 24, 1891 in Innsbruck ; † January 4, 1983 ibid) was an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SdP).

Life

After attending compulsory schools , he went to the Innsbruck Teacher Training Institute and took the teaching qualification test for elementary and secondary schools . He then studied German and history at the University of Innsbruck and later worked as a subject teacher in Innsbruck. From 1925 he was a member of the SdP in the Tyrolean state parliament. In 1933 he switched from the SdP to the NSDAP . In 1935 he was arrested for National Socialist activities and sentenced to imprisonment. In 1936 he was dismissed from service as a result of this conviction. Then he got by with odd jobs and as a correspondent for foreign newspapers. He "fled" to Germany and began as a youth administrator for the National Socialist People's Welfare . From 1937 to 1938 he taught at elementary schools in Baunach and Ampfing , and in 1938 he was director of the boys' main school in Innsbruck. From 1939 to 1941 he was the government director of the Tyrolean school system. In 1945 he was released from service and arrested. After his release in July 1946, he gave private lessons and returned to odd jobs.
