Josef Reschen

Josef Reschen (born May 5, 1941 in Untergraden , Styria ) was Mayor of the City of Salzburg between 1980 and 1990 and President of the Salzburg Museum Association from 2003 to 2016 .

Life

From 1960 to 1964, Reschen studied civil engineering at the Graz University of Technology. After graduating as a qualified engineer in 1964, he first worked for the Carinthian state government . In 1967 he entered the service of the State of Salzburg . In 1974 he moved into the Salzburg municipal council .

On February 11, 1980, he took over the office of city council and a few months later, on September 12, 1980, he was finally mayor of the city of Salzburg.

During his reign, the Salzburger Stadtwerke were converted into a stock corporation, important infrastructure investments were made in water supply, canals and local railways, and a long-term cultural site concept was created. He also contributed to the resistance to the Bavarian reprocessing plant in Wackersdorf in. Reschen received recognition through the renovation of Salzburg's city finances in the 1980s.

Due to the allegations of a business relationship with the WEB empire kept secret from the WEB committee of inquiry, he handed over his office on March 7, 1990 to his party colleague in the SPÖ , Harald Lettner . Resia was finally acquitted of these allegations in connection with the WEB committee of inquiry.

On March 1, 2003, Reschen was elected President and in 2016 Honorary President of the Museum Association.

On May 11, 2005, the city of Salzburg granted the former mayor honorary citizenship .
