Josef Rickenbacher
Josef Rickenbacher (born February 7, 1925 in Steinen ; † July 23, 2004 in Arth ) was a Swiss sculptor .
biography
Josef Rickenbacher completed an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor at the arts and crafts school in Lucerne and completed his training in Bern and with the sculptors Karl Geiser and Albert Schilling . In 1949 he took over the studio in Zug , where the Austrian sculptor Fritz Wotruba had worked during his exile in Switzerland from 1939 to 1945. In 1955 he married Anna Reichlin. After 1958 he had a new studio built in stones next to his house.
Honors
- 1983: Culture Prize of the Canton of Schwyz .
Works
Rickenbacher designed artistic design concepts and furnishing elements for numerous churches in Switzerland. Several times he supported the redesign of church interiors as part of the liturgical reform after the Second Vatican Council . He also created objects for public spaces such as grave sculptures, grave crosses, sculptures and monumental crosses.
