Josef Suk (violinist)
Josef Suk (born August 8, 1929 in Prague ; † July 7, 2011 there ) was a Czech violinist and occasional violist . He was the grandson of the composer Josef Suk and great-grandson of the composer Antonín Dvořák .
Live and act
Josef Suk, who appeared as a child prodigy in 1940, studied at the Prague Conservatory and until 1950 with the violin teacher Jaroslav Kocian . In 1954 he made his official debut as a soloist, but by this time he had already given concerts in Paris and Brussels in 1948, had been primary violinist of the “ Prague Quartet ” since 1951 , and founded the Suk Trio in March of the same year . Since then he has occasionally worked as a conductor.
Josef Suk was considered one of the most versatile violinists of the 20th century. Musically, he was a citizen of the world and a time traveler (from Johann Sebastian Bach to Alban Berg ) and played both concert and chamber music in all conceivable configurations. He was considered the most important living soloist in his country, as an ambassador for whose music - and that of his grandfather - he was internationally recognized. Josef Suk played in the 1960s on the Stradivarius "Camposelice" by Váša Příhoda , which was loaned to him by the Czechoslovak state.
Chamber music was equally important in Suk's work as a soloist. His Czech trio with Jan Panenka, piano, and Josef Chuchro, cello, has set standards with recordings by Schubert (op. 99), Beethoven and Dvořák , his American trio with Julius Katchen , piano, and János Starker , cello, is v. a. emerged with recordings of the Brahms trios. His performance of the viola solo part in Berlioz ' Harold en Italie under the baton of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and the recording of Brahms' double concerto (with André Navarra ) under Karel Ančerl also have a reference character . 1974 seemed Suk in the soundtrack to violence and passion of Luchino Visconti with.
