Stuart Appleby (born May 1, 1971 in Cohuna, Victoria , Australia ) is an Australian professional golfer .

Career

As a child, the son of a dairy farmer from the northern, rural part of the Australian province of Victoria , hit his golf balls in the abundant cow pastures. He became a professional golfer in 1992 and began his career on the Australasian tour . In 1995 Appleby won twice on the North American Nike Tour , the forerunner of the Nationwide Tour , and thus qualified for the PGA TOUR . He got off to a flying start and was already fifth on the money list in the first year.

On August 1, 2010 Appleby achieved a score of 59 strokes on its final round at the Greenbrier Classic and won the tournament. He was only the fifth player to achieve this record result on the PGA Tour.

Stuart Appleby has won nine tournaments on the PGA TOUR so far, has been a member of the International Team in the Presidents Cup in all matches since 1998 and is consistently among the top 50 in the world rankings .

His first wife, Renay, was killed in a tragic 1998 traffic accident in London , shortly after Appleby was eliminated from the Open Championship . In 2003, he married his Ohio- born girlfriend, Ashley Saleet. She gave birth to a girl in January 2005. The family is based in Orlando , Florida .
