Josef Tichy (born August 24, 1922 in Pörtschach am Wörther See ; † November 6, 2001 there ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Life

From 1945 Josef Tichy attended the Carinthian State Institute for Fine Arts in Klagenfurt and from 1950 the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna . As a freelance artist , he dealt with various printing techniques. He has led graphic seminars and undertook study trips to Europe and the Middle East. His residence was Pörtschach am Wörthersee . He has won numerous international awards for his graphics. In 1982 he received the professional title of professor .

The freelance artist was well versed in all techniques, he enthusiastically experimented with ever new shapes and colors, was just as inspired by the doodles of his grandchildren as by the walnut tree in front of his Pörtschach studio , where his grandfather had a gardening business. The initial portraits and landscapes of his time as a soldier eventually turned into masterpieces of abstraction that can be found in important graphic collections around the world today.

Josef Tichy was married to Gerlinde Tichy and the father of three children. He died on November 6, 2001. He found his final resting place in the local cemetery.
