Count Josef Sedlnitzky Odrowąż von Choltitz (born January 8, 1778 in Tropplowitz , Austrian Silesia ; † June 24, 1855 in Baden near Vienna ) was a court official and head of the police and censorship department during the pre-march , Biedermeier in Vienna under State Chancellor Metternich .

Life

Sedlnitzky was police chief in Vienna from 1815 and was entrusted with censorship tasks in Biedermeier Austria by Emperor Franz I of Austria . Count Sedlnitzky was extremely unpopular, especially among the Austrian artists of the pre-March period . Count Sedlnitzky was deposed in 1848 during the revolution in Vienna . Count Sedlnitzky died in Baden near Vienna in 1855 .

His brother Leopold was Bishop of Breslau and later a member of the Council of State under Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia.
