Joseph-Antoine Froelicher
Joseph-Antoine Froelicher (born November 2, 1790 in Solothurn as Josef-Anton Froelicher , † January 9, 1866 in Paris ) was a Swiss - French architect who built buildings for the nobility in France in the first half of the 19th century.
Life
Joseph-Antoine Froelicher came from a patrician family in Solothurn. Froelicher began his architecture studies first in Switzerland and then received a government grant to continue in Paris. From 1809, he was there as a student of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts enrolled . In 1810 he was naturalized in France.
As an architect of numerous families of the French high nobility , he built castles and palaces for these . He became the official architect of the Duchess de Berry , for whom he expanded the castle in Rosny-sur-Seine . As a monarchist , he faced many difficulties after the revolution of 1830.
Froelicher is the father-in-law of the architect Henri Parent .
