Joseph Angelo Grech

Joseph Angelo Grech (born December 10, 1948 in Ħal Balzan , Malta , † December 27, 2010 in Melbourne , Australia ) was Bishop of Sandhurst .

Life

Joseph Angelo Grech studied theology and philosophy at the Diocesan Seminary in Balzan in Malta and at Corpus Christi College Glen Waverley and Clayton. He was ordained a priest on November 30, 1974 by the auxiliary bishop in Malta , Joseph Mercieca . He has served in pastoral care in Melbourne, Northcote, Altona North, Maidstone and Moonee Ponds and parish priest in Brunswick East. After studying for a doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, he became chaplain of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. He was spiritual at the Corpus Christi College of the diocese .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Belesasa and auxiliary bishop in Melbourne on November 27, 1998 . The Archbishop of Melbourne George Pell gave him on 10 February 1999 in Patrick's Cathedral the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were Thomas Francis Little , Senior Archbishop of Melbourne, and Joseph Peter O'Connell , Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne.

He was named Bishop of Sandhurst on March 8, 2001, and ordained in office on April 27, 2001 at Sacred Heart Cathedral . He was also responsible for youth and young adults and for migrants and refugees in the Australian Bishops' Conference.
